Open Day MARCH 15TH 2025: Spring at Quinta Vale da Lama

Vale da Lama, near Odiáxere, about 7 km from Lagos in the Algarve.
A day full of free activities for all ages. Stay for lunch! Vegetarian meal and snacks will be available for sale.

Arrive and settle in. Enjoy a warm cup of tea and a tasty snack while taking in the beauty of the farm. Meet the team, connect with fellow visitors, and get ready for a day of nature, discovery, and fun!
Guided Tour of a Regenerative Farm
10:30am to 12pm
Explore Quinta Vale da Lama on a guided tour through key areas of the farm. Learn how we apply regenerative agriculture and ecosystem restoration to grow food while healing the land. See our latest projects in action, discover restoration methods, and get inspired by nature’s resilience!

Building Shelters for Living Beings

Let’s invite more life into our gardens! We’ll build insect houses using recycled materials and natural resources from the farm. At the same time, we’ll gather plants to dry and create natural paints. A hands-on activity that connects creativity with nature!

Sensorial Walk along the Estuary

Discovering Local Flora: Immerse yourself in a sensory walk through the lower area of our farm, where every step is an opportunity to explore the rich local flora. Using all your senses, you’ll connect with nature, practice mindfulness, and gain a deeper understanding of the plants and ecosystems around us. A guided experience to see, touch, and feel the landscape, recognizing and understanding plant life.

How Wild Bees Adapt to Human Modified Environments
Workshop
2pm to 3:30pm
Learn about wild bees, their essential role as pollinators, and the challenges they face in a rapidly changing world. Discover how researchers study wild bees in both field and laboratory. By connecting genetics, ecology, and conservation, this session will provide a broader understanding of the evolutionary challenges pollinators face today. You will also play a game that our facilitator has been developing as part of his academic research and we will observe pollinators in action through hands-on activities.

Fermentation
Culinary Workshop

Join us for a fermentation and tasting workshop based on seasonal, local, and organic (SLO) vegetables from Quinta Vale da Lama! You will learn about the benefits of fermented foods, how to get started with fermentation, and then take part in a hands-on demonstration.

Quinta Vale da Lama
An organic farm near Lagos, Portugal
Our 43-hectare farm in southwestern Portugal has a lot going on. From growing organic food, to regenerating soils, nourishing the community, and educating people about ecosystem restoration, there is something happening all year-round!
We are also an active member of Ecosystem Restoration Communities, a group of 60 global hubs pursuing diverse restoration initiatives rehabilitating degraded lands to create flourishing ecosystems. We share our regeneration work and knowledge freely with others locally and globally.
The Open Day on March 15th will take place in the area of Quinta Vale da Lama where Novas Descobertas Association is based. The parking area 🅿️ is located about 100m before the meeting point at Novas Descobertas Association
