Education for Regeneration Internship

The intern learns about the creation and development of activities, dynamics and pedagogical spaces related to ecological and social regeneration, in the educational work with young people and children.

With the associations project managers, the trainee learns about educational programs (for children and youth groups) linked (for example) to vegetable gardens and nurseries, soils, water abstraction, permaculture action, raising awareness of environmental and social regenerative action, group formation, leadership, creative thinking …

The intern designs, supports, creates, develops and promotes ideas and projects related to the regenerative educational action (social and environmental) always with the mentoring and monitoring of PND project managers.

Learning Outcomes:

Skills on pedagogical activities related to the theme of social and environmental regeneration, with children and young people.
Leadership training and group formation.
Skills in the development of projects, spaces, structures and pedagogical materials for regenerative education.
Knowledge of how to use specific methodologies towards regenerative action and teaching.
Concept Development: Educational Regeneration | Sustainability | Resilience | Permaculture | Collaborative Design.

Activities to be developed in the internship:

Monitoring of groups in educational and regenerative school activities on the farm.
Design and implementation of pedagogical spaces on the farm
Support to the summer camp team in the design, creation and implementation of nature and envi.
ronmental| social regeneration activities .
Support to the design and creation of educational materials and spaces for regenerative action with children and youth.
Individual Project Development: Designing an Activity | space or pedagogical tool for teaching environmental and / or social regenerative action.
Maintenance of gardens, nurseries, orchards and other educational spaces.

Preferred Requirements

If you have one or more of these characteristics tell us, as they will be important in the selection process:
* Do you enjoy (and have some experience) working with young people and children in the natural environment.
* Do you understand and / or speak Portuguese.
* Do you understand and / or speak english.
* Do you like community living, working in groups and in connection with nature.
* If you have motivation and a taste for learning by practical experience and working with a team.
* If you like and have skills for outdoor activities, sports, outdoor games .
* Open to flexibility in your intern schedules.
* If you don’t have animals to bring (we do not accept applications with the request to bring animals)

A day in the life of an education intern*

* VARIETY is the Theme OF YOUR DAYS in this internship – your days will be VERY DIVERSE because the association’s action varies with the time of year and with the weekly action project – can be schools, informal group, parents and children, open days, summer camps activities, training and courses … You will not experience monotony and your learning will be very rich!

(let’s imagine one of these days of your internship :)

09:00 – You arrive at campo do vale (educational space of the farm – Headquarters of the New Discoveries Project Association), look for schools project manager and give some support in preparing the materials you will use to receive the incoming school.
09:30 – Together with the project manager and other animators, you welcome the school of 20 children and observe the activities you have helped to prepare in the previous days – about the importance of soils, their constitution and formation.
11:00 – Return to your dorm space and Lama Village kitchen. It’s your day in the kitchen team so you have to prepare lunch.
12:45 – Have lunch with the rest of the interns.
13:45 – Do the dishes and clean the kitchen.
15:00 – Study time The project manager currently guiding you has given you some online tutorials on teaching nurseries. You finish seeing them early and spend some time researching materials, spaces, possible designs of a pedagogical nursery to receive schools and contemplate programmatic functions. You spend time studying the programmatic functions of the PND school program “days on the Farm” and how a nursery might serve you.
18:00 – The trainees were invited to a game session and presentation dymanics in the educational space of the farm (PND), as S3 training is beginning. You decide to participate.
19:00 – As the two-day “S3 sociocracy” training you were invited to attend began, you have dinner with all the PND team members and the training participants.
20:00 Dinner.
21:00 You participate in an evening activity to which you were invited – with the beginning of Sociocracy training.
23:00 Time to sleep.
